There are cities whose beauty is immediately clear, cities that give themselves to everyone. And then there are other cities, secret cities, which love to be discovered.”

Carlo Castellaneta talking about his Milan.

Our city is way more beautiful than one might think at first sight. Frenetic, metropolitan, modern, lively. Milan is the city of aperitivo the typical Italian happy hour, the capital of fashion and design and the core of night life and culture.

Yet, while walking through the narrow streets of the Navigli area, where you can still find the old shops, the rythm of the city seems to slow down and time seems to stop. Right then, right there Milan offers secret views and unexpected landscapes, only for those who really want to discover them.

From the modern and high skyscrapers of Garibaldi, to the narrow refined streets of the characteristic Brera neighbourhood, from the historical city centre where the Duomo and its Madonnina soar, to the streets of exclusive fashion and shopping in San Babila, Via della Spiga and Montenapoleone, up to the lively area of Navigli, crowded with restaurants and bars: Milan is different in each neighbourhood. Residenza Ascanio Sforza is the perfect starting point to visit them all.

We wish you a nice stay and an ispiring journey to discover Milan.

Our Residenza is located in the beating heart of Navigli, a neighbourhood characterized by the energy of the bars, the typical restaurants, the shops, the flower markets and the antique dealer boutiques.

However, back in the days, the area was not so popular among the citizens of Milan: Navigli was a port area of Milan, made of navigable channels built between the XII and the XIX centuries and connecting Milan with Maggiore lake, Como lake and the sea.

Nowadays, the area has undergone a major renovation and has highly increased in value, driven by Expo 2015: thanks to the opening of the new Darsena – literally, ‘dockyard’ – it has become a meeting point and the perfect place to enjoy a night-out with friends. It is a neighbourhood with a romantic and pictureque atmosphere, where you can taste the real aperitivo of Milan, walk through the vintage markets or have fun in the trendiest bars and clubs.

A few steps away from the Residenza, where via Ascanio Sforza meets via Conchetta, you could bump into ‘la chiusa della Conchetta’ – literally the sluice of Conchetta. We suggest you take some time to admire this part of the project ideated by Leornardo da Vinci to connect Milan and Pavia.
